Who We Are

The Pratt Equestrian Team is one of Pratt's varsity sport teams.   We're a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA), and in our Zone and Region we compete against the Adelphi University, Columbia University, Hofstra University, LIU-Post, Molloy College, New York University, Princeton University, St. Josesph's University, Stony Brook University, and Suffolk County Community College IHSA teams.

The Jamaica Bay Riding Academy (JBRA) is our team's beautiful home stable. The team's Head Coach is JBRA's Jacobi "Jake" Pittari, its Associate Head Coach & Faculty Advisor is Pratt's Kathryn Cullen-DuPont, and its Assistant Coach is JBRA's Joyce Danza. We hope you'll become more familiar with our team by exploring this website, and that you'll visit the official Athletics Department website for links to Pratt's academic programs and for an athletic recruitment form.

With every good wish,

Kathryn Cullen-DuPont
Associate Head Coach & Faculty Advisor

Our Team's Home Stable

Our Home Stable, Jamaica Bay Riding Academy, is a family-owned equestrian facility that was established in 1972.  Some of its amenities are a 160’ x 325’ outdoor arena, a heated and air conditioned lounge with a view of its  200’ x 100’ indoor riding arena, an intermediate cross country course, an Olympic size dressage arena, more than 300 acres of manicured wooded trails and three miles of beach-front riding, and a full tack and apparel Tack Shop.  In addition to being the home of the Pratt Equestrian Team, JBRA is the home of  Seaside 4 Therapeutic Riding and the grades 3 - 12 IEA and AEL Jamaica Bay Riding Teams

The Equestrian Team:
Pratt Varsity and a Member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA)

Picture

As one of Pratt's varsity athletic teams, Pratt Equestrian competes in Zone 2, Region 4, of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).  Our team practices are held Friday late afternoons and evenings at the Jamaica Bay Riding Academy (JBRA), which is closed to the public at that time for our team's exclusive use.   In our Region, there are generally five IHSA competitions during the fall semester, and three--including Pratt's own home show at JBRA--during the spring semester. (These shows are on Sundays, and and they're generally about hour or so's travel away from campus.)

Seaside
4 Therapeutic Riding:  Our Team's Community Service

Picture

Our team is very proud of our strong volunteer commitment.  All Pratt Equestrian members receive the proper training to volunteer with Seaside 4 Therapeutic Riding, a non-profit organization that is certified by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship to help those "with physical, cognitive and emotional challenges find strength and independence through the power of the horse."  Each Team member volunteers two Saturday mornings each semester.
