Before the pandemic, Amy Wu and Erin Colinge were both accomplished at their respective lHSA levels of Limit and Introductory Hunter Seat Equitation, and they had placed well at shows. During our post-lockdown return this year, though, with Pratt Equestrian sitting out the Fall shows our competitors were fully engaged in, Amy and Erin worked especially hard, achieving incredible personal growth that allowed them to fully inhabit and demonstrate their abilities. In what turned out to be our one and only competition for our returning year, both Amy and Erin were spectacular: Amy, who had always placed well on the flat but had never competed over fences before, rode a bold, beautiful and nearly flawless round to place third, and Erin, in her first (and as graduating senior, last) position as Team Point Rider, seemed graceful perfection itself as she rode to first place in her class. Again, we believe that Amy’s and Erin’s experiences and performances this year exemplify the best of what’s possible not only to accomplish but to witness in athletics, and we therefore nominated them to share Pratt’s Athlete of the Year Award. Their congratulations, and the congratulations of our entire team, to the winners of the Award, Payden Spencer and Katy O'Connor!
We were also proud to receive the SAAC Award for providing the most service to the Pratt and surrounding community, and for the most consistent engagement with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Our thanks to Chris Thompson and Kulsum Kahn for selecting us for this award!
Our team also received the Athletic Department's Strength & Conditioning Award, for overall best performance, improvement, attendance, and commitment to strength and conditioning. In presenting the award, Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Carina Sturm praised the team's "chemistry, genuine love for each other, and their dedication to improving themselves and elevating their teammates." Thank you for all of your dedicated work with us, Carina!
Edy Tabor received our 2021-2022 MVP Award. In addition to being one of our co-captains, Edy is our team's most advanced rider. No matter the circumstances, Edy always handled themselves with grace, discipline, and professionalism. In the schooling arena and in the show ring, Edy is a shining example of the sport and a person their teammates can look up to. We were delighted to present the MVP Award to Edy!
Ana Sierra was selected for this award due to her diligence, hard work, and leadership. She epitomizes everything one would want in a Co-Captain. Always willing to be helpful, always first to get a task done, and a genuinely bright spirit, Ana could not be more deserving of her coaches' and teammates' admiration and appreciation, or more deserving of this Award!
